what we show
For each business we show facts it publishes itself: its name, address, contact details, opening hours and the names and prices of its services. We don’t copy descriptions, photos or logos. Each price comes from the business’s own website, which we read automatically, respecting robots.txt and never logging in or getting past any block. A business that doesn’t want to be listed can remove its listing.
our crawler
Our crawler, the not from here bot, identifies itself as “notfromherebot”. It reads a business’s homepage and the few pages that look like a price list, one page at a time. It:
- follows robots.txt – to keep it out, add “User-agent: notfromherebot” and “Disallow: /”;
- honours text-and-data-mining opt-outs: a “tdm-reservation: 1” header or meta tag (TDMRep), or “noai” in a robots meta tag or “X-Robots-Tag” header, or a written reservation on the page (“text and data mining reserved”);
- stops reading a site when it answers 403 or 429, and stops visiting it after repeated refusals;
- never logs in, fills in forms or gets past a block, and doesn’t read booking platforms, review sites or directories;
- doesn’t visit businesses that asked to be removed.
Anything else, or to be left out by email: support@notfromhere.ai.
open data we use
- Business locations and details include data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
- Places data from Overture Maps Foundation, under CDLA-Permissive-2.0, including data from Foursquare Open Source Places under the Apache License 2.0.
- Public licence and business-registration records from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the New York State Department of State, and the cities of Seattle (Department of Finance and Administrative Services), San Francisco (PDDL), Los Angeles (Office of Finance, CC0) and San Diego; childcare centres from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (CC0) and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (data retrieved from data.pa.gov); and moving companies from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s company census.
- Business-registry records from the Colorado Secretary of State, the Connecticut Secretary of the State, the Pennsylvania Department of State (data.pa.gov), the Oregon Secretary of State, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Florida Division of Corporations and the District of Columbia (Open Data DC, CC0); licence records from the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries, the Connecticut Departments of Consumer Protection and Motor Vehicles, Connecticut’s childcare licensing, and the City of Kansas City, Missouri; the Oregon Construction Contractors Board and Building Codes Division; the State of Delaware (business licences, and childcare licensing); the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge; the City of Buffalo; the Colorado Department of Early Childhood; the Missouri Division of Professional Registration; the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs; the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing; the Arizona Registrar of Contractors; the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation; and the City of Chicago (see below).
- Health-care provider records from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (the NPPES provider registry, the Doctors and Clinicians file and the provider-enrollment files); professional licence records from the Colorado Division of Professional and Occupational Regulation (data.colorado.gov); and operating-authority and insurance records from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s licensing and insurance file. From personal licences we keep only whether the licence a business shows on its own website is active, and when it expires — never the licensee’s name.
- We match these records to our own listings and use only facts from them (a business’s name, address, phone, website and type, and whether its registration or licence is active); we don’t republish the files. A business is marked closed only when two independent signs agree: its website no longer exists, and an official record says it has closed. Each fact is as of the day we last read the file, and may have changed since. No government agency endorses or is affiliated with the Service, and we don’t use agency logos.
- This site provides applications using data that has been modified for use from its original source, www.cityofchicago.org, the official website of the City of Chicago. The City of Chicago makes no claims as to the content, accuracy, timeliness, or completeness of any of the data provided at this site. The data provided at this site is subject to change at any time. It is understood that the data provided at this site is being used at one’s own risk.
- Map images come from our map provider, credited on each map.
reporting a copyright problem
If you believe something on the Service infringes your copyright, email support@notfromhere.ai with “copyright notice” in the subject and:
- the work you believe is infringed;
- where it appears on the Service (a link or the business’s name and the item);
- your name, address, phone number and email;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorised by the owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorised to act for them;
- your physical or electronic signature.
We remove or disable the material promptly and tell the business concerned, which may send a counter-notice with the same details and a statement that it believes the material was removed by mistake. We restore it after 10 to 14 business days unless the person who complained tells us they have started a court action. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.
For a wrong or out-of-date listing that isn’t about copyright, use the correct or remove page – we answer within 5 business days.
We store and show facts only: names, addresses, contact details, opening hours, and service names, prices and durations, each linked to the page it came from. We never copy a business’s descriptions, photos, logos or page layout.
